LexisNexis Unveils Three New Products at Government Conference on Information Sharing for Homeland Security
NEW ORLEANS, LA, June 28, 2005 - LexisNexis, a leading provider of legal, news, business information and risk management services, unveiled three new products based on the successful Accurint® platform today at the Government Symposium on Information Sharing and Homeland Security being held in New Orleans, La.
"The challenge of building a trusted information sharing network at the national level is implementing technologies that allow agencies to retain control of their own sensitive datasets while enabling them to share the appropriate information in a proportional way with other agencies for whom the information may provide a vital means to detect, anticipate and disrupt a terrorist threat," said Norm Willox, Managing Director of LexisNexis Special Services Inc. "These three products – Accurint® LE Plus, Accurint® Enterprise Solution and Accurint® Federated Information Sharing – allow homeland security and law enforcement personnel to rapidly and efficiently gather, analyze and share this critical information."
As homeland security organizations confront the challenge of implementing interoperable systems for sharing terrorist threat information horizontally across the federal government and vertically from the federal level down to state and local agencies, the paramount challenge is developing a system that enables relevant information to be shared with the right person in a timely manner.
- Accurint LE Plus is a powerful desktop application built using the same technology as the Web-based Accurint® LE product already used by almost 2,500 police departments, approximately 1,000 sheriffs’ offices, and numerous federal agencies across the country. Accurint LE Plus integrates all the analyst’s mission-critical tools, such as visual link analysis, real-time batching and GIS mapping, in one, easy-to-use desktop application.
- Accurint Enterprise Solution enables law enforcement organizations to fuse key law enforcement datasets with LexisNexis® Public Records to increase efficiency and enhance investigative capabilities. The cost-effective, scalable and quickly implemented solution is delivered through the Accurint LE Plus desktop interface and allows law enforcement users to retain control of their own sensitive and confidential information behind their agency’s firewall.
- Accurint Federated Information Sharing enables organizations that have implemented the Accurint Enterprise Solution or compatible technology to participate, at their own discretion, in a distributed information sharing environment and determine what information they share and with whom they share it.
The role of law enforcement has changed significantly in the post 9-11 world, with state, municipal and local police taking a proactive approach to detecting, deterring and disrupting terrorist threats. Often, criminal activities such as narcotics trafficking, cigarette smuggling and financial fraud serve to fund and enable terrorist activities. Law enforcement’s role in investigating these crimes puts them on the front lines and makes their ability to share information regarding these criminal enterprises with federal authorities a crucial component of the homeland security mission.
"The power of the Accurint Enterprise Solution is its ability to fuse commercial data with specific law enforcement datasets to enhance investigative capabilities and accelerate access to current, actionable information," said Sal Hernandez, Vice President of Law Enforcement Programs for LexisNexis Government Services. "What differentiates this solution is the ability of each agency to leverage the powerful data fusion technology while retaining control over their sensitive datasets behind the agency’s own firewall. Accurint Federated Information Sharing takes this powerful technology to the next level by allowing organizations to conduct queries across a distributed systems environment.
"We developed these solutions with the law enforcement intelligence analyst in mind," said Hernandez. "Our goal is to allow the analyst to use these tools and solutions to conduct an investigation and access vital information at the speed of their own thought process."
